April 18, 2024 - Quantay BYROM Found Guilty of Murder in 2020 Roadway Shooting

Thursday (Apr 18), a Brevard County Jury found Quantay BYROM (25), guilty of Second-Degree Murder (F1-PBL) in the shooting death of Rickie Gilbert (62), in 2020.
 
Circuit Judge Charles Crawford presided over the nine (9) day trial with evidence presented by Assistant State Attorneys Samantha Barrett and Christine Babb. BYROM did not testify and after approximately three and a half (3.5) hours of deliberation, the jury returned with the guilty verdict. 
 
Indicted for First-Degree Murder on September 21, 2020, the jury convicted BYROM of the lessor included offense of Second-Degree Murder which carries a maximum penalty of life in prison. 
 
Judge Crawford ordered BYROM held in custody, and set sentencing for June 6, 2024, at 1:15 pm. 
 
On February 25th, 2020, Rickie Gilbert (62) was shot and killed by a stray bullet while riding in a car. Titusville Police identified Quantay BYROM as the driver of a car that was targeting and firing at a third car, when a bullet penetrated the windshield of Gilbert's uninvolved vehicle and struck him.
