September 14, 2023 - Carlos JONES II Found Guilty of Second-Degree Murder

Yesterday (Sept 13), a Brevard County Jury found Carlos JONES II (24), guilty of Second-Degree Murder (F1-PBL) in the shooting death of Sha'Dayla Johnson (23) in 2022.
 
Circuit Judge Steve Henderson presided over the ten (10) day trial with evidence presented by Assistant State Attorney Nader Hatoum and Assistant State Attorney Kari Kies. JONES testified in his own defense and after approximately six (6) hours of deliberation, the jury returned with the guilty verdict. 
 
Indicted for First-Degree Murder on January 17, 2023, the jury convicted JONES of the lessor included offense of Second-Degree Murder While Discharging a Firearm Causing Death. 
 
Judge Henderson adjudicated JONES guilty, ordered him held in custody, and set sentencing for October 25, 2023, at 1:30 pm. JONES is facing a minimum mandatory 25 years in prison and a maximum sentence of life.
 
On December 20, 2022, at 7:48 am, Melbourne Police responded to a 9-11 call of a gunshot victim at 2827 Colbert Circle. Upon arrival officers found Johnson unresponsive in the carport of her home with multiple gunshot wounds. Johnson was transported to the hospital where she later died. Witnesses indicated that her former live-in boyfriend JONES, had been seen at the residence when the shooting took place.
 
At 11:00 am, Palm Bay Police reported that JONES entered their lobby and surrendered. When questioned by investigators, JONES admitted his involvement in shooting Johnson after a dispute over not responding to his phone calls or text messages.
